Have Your Say on Proposed Speed Reductions in Washington Village

Washington Parish Council is preparing an application for a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) to introduce lower speed limits across key roads in the village. Improving safety for residents — including families, school children, bus users and those who walk, cycle or ride horses — is a key priority for the community, especially as many of these roads have no pavements or pathways.

Washington Is also located in a highly sensitive part of the South Downs National Park, close to the South Downs Way, one of Britain's most iconic long-distance trails. The village's roads are used not only by local people but also by visitors exploring this nationally important landscape. Slower speeds will help protect all road users in this beautiful and historic setting.

To help achieve this, we are proposing a TRO application to West Sussex County Council to:

• Reduce 30mph limits to 20mph on The Pike, London Road, the northern end of Washington Bostal, School Lane and The Street.
• Reduce the 60mph limit on the southern end of Washington Bostal between the village and the A24 to 40mph

The South Downs National Park Authority has identified Washington Bostal as a route where current speeds are too high to provide a safe and comfortable environment for vulnerable road users. This evidence helps support the Parish Council's proposal to introduce these lower speed limits and improve safety along this important village road network.
